The wellness industry is worth trillions of dollars. But do any of these expenditures lead to real results when it comes to health? This course will examine some of the key wellness sectors, including beauty, nutrition, and complementary medicine. It will also highlight the good, the bad, and the ugly “wellness” practices that have gained traction over the past decade. By the end of the course, participants will learn the simple and effective ways of living “well”. The content described and discussed in this course is provided as an information resource only and is not to be used or relied on for any diagnostic or treatment purposes. Facilitator: Amanda Giancola
Amanda completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, with a Major in Biology, and Minors in both Bioethics and Forest Conservation Science. After a year of globetrotting, Amanda decided to pursue the Master’s of Global Health Program at McMaster University concurrently with the Graduate Diploma Program in Water, Environment and Health at the United-Nations University. Amanda currently works at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, as a Research Coordinator in the Centre for Global Child Health. She previously facilitated a course on Digital Deluge through McMaster’s Learning Continuum and 55+ Program.
