McMaster Continuing Education Launches New Data Governance Program Focused on Developing Skills for Success in a Data-Driven World
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 2, 2024
In partnership with the McMaster Data Governance Office, McMaster Continuing Education is excited to announce the launch of a new online Data Governance program, consisting of four courses that provide professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage data effectively and responsibly. The program offers a flexible learning experience designed for working professionals and will be available starting this Fall.
As businesses increasingly rely on vast amounts of data to drive decision-making, the need for professionals who can ensure data quality, security, compliance, and accessibility has never been greater. Data governance plays a crucial role in protecting an organization’s most valuable asset—its data—while ensuring that it meets regulatory standards and is used strategically to foster growth.
This program is ideal for those seeking to enhance their careers in business, IT, or data-focused roles. Each course covers a range of topics, including data stewardship, governance frameworks, privacy, ethics, and data security. Upon each course completion participants will receive a microcredential recognizing their learning achievement. For those who choose to successfully complete all four courses of the program, in addition to receiving four microcredentials, they will also receive a Certificate of Completion, validating their achievement and demonstrating their expertise in this rapidly evolving field.
Dan Piedra, Assistant Director at McMaster Continuing Education, highlights the growing importance of data governance in today’s job market: “As data becomes increasingly central to every organization, professionals who can manage and govern data effectively are in high demand. Our new Data Governance program will equip learners with the practical skills they need to thrive in this space, and provide them with credentials that can enhance their career prospects.”
Amanda Baldwin, Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives at McMaster University, also emphasizes the value of mastering data governance: “Whether you’re looking to improve operational efficiency or drive strategic initiatives, mastering data governance is key to mitigating risk and fully harnessing organizational data to create positive change.”
The flexible online format of this program ensures that participants can fit learning into their busy schedules, making it accessible for professionals at all stages of their careers.
Graduates of the Data Governance program will have the opportunity to showcase their microcredential on professional platforms like LinkedIn, further boosting their visibility and credibility in the workforce. This microcredential will highlight their commitment to professional development and data management excellence.
