Meet Chris Hoquis: Guiding professionals through agile in practice

With more than 20 years of experience across technology, product development and consulting, Chris Hoquis brings a practical, real-world perspective to his teaching. Over the past eight years, he has also taught at the postgraduate level, focusing on helping learners turn complex ideas into skills they can use with confidence at work.
At McMaster Continuing Education, Hoquis teaches professionals who are actively working to grow in their careers. He values connecting with learners who bring thoughtful questions and real workplace challenges into the learning experience. For many, what they learn is applied right away in their day-to-day work.
His teaching focuses on Agile and modern ways of working. He encourages learners to look beyond frameworks and understand Agile as a way of working together. It is about how teams communicate, adapt and solve problems in changing environments.
“Stay curious and be willing to experiment. Agile is not about getting it perfect. It’s about learning, adapting, and improving over time.”
Learners in his courses come from a wide range of fields, including project management, product, operations and leadership. They gain practical tools they can apply right away, from leading more effective team discussions to working through complex situations with more clarity.
Hoquis encourages a simple mindset when it comes to learning. He believes growth comes from learning over time, making adjustments and continuing to improve.
He brings real-world stories and examples into his teaching to show how these ideas work in practice. This helps learners connect what they are learning to their own work and build skills they can continue to use throughout their careers.
