McMaster Continuing Education offers new program as a fast track to Health Information Management
To meet this demand, McMaster Continuing Education now offers the Health Information Fundamentals certificate program to fast-track students to achieving their Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) designation.
Certified professionals are needed in both the public and private sectors to manage the critical data of the Canadian health care industry. To meet this demand, McMaster Continuing Education now offers the Health Information Fundamentals certificate program to fast-track students to achieving their Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) designation.
Developed using the Canadian College of Health Information Management (College)’s Health Information Fundamentals Curricular Standards and recognized by the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA), this online program teaches the fundamental theories and principles of health information management and the structure of the Canadian health system and data repositories.
“Our college is proud to announce the accreditation of the new Health Information Fundamentals program offered by McMaster Continuing Education,” states Jeff Nesbitt, CEO & Registrar of the Canadian College of Health Information Management and CHIMA. “We look forward to supporting faculty and students through this program and welcoming graduates who write and pass our Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) national certification examination. Certification recognizes health data as a key factor in providing safe and quality care to people across our country.” Nesbitt adds.
With a focus on information governance, quality, clinical knowledge, analytics, privacy, and technology, Lorraine Carter, Director of McMaster Continuing Education, says, “Students will gain in-demand skills to propel them into a rewarding career in the ever-growing field of health information management.”
Upon completing six courses, students will be awarded a Certificate in Health Information Fundamentals. In addition, certificate holders are eligible to write the Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) national certification examination. Passing the examination will provide them with the CHIM professional designation.
Lorraine Carter advises, “While the development of this program addresses the direct response to the health care industry’s demand for certified information management professionals, the program also provides pathways for people from other professional backgrounds who wish to enjoy a satisfying and rewarding career in this field.”
If prospective students meet the eligibility criteria, that includes having completed a degree at a recognized university (in any discipline) or are currently working towards the completion of an undergraduate degree, their application will be considered for admission into the program.
