Azam Khan Jadoon is the very first graduate of the McMaster University Centre for Continuing Education Business of Golf and Resort Management program. And he completed all ten online courses for the diploma from his home in northern Pakistan.
Since the program started at McMaster in 2017, students have enrolled from Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, and from locations in the Caribbean and Asia.“One of my favourite parts of the program was that students were from different areas. So the interaction was really good with them — a lot of knowledge was shared among the class and from different parts of the countries,” says Jadoon.
Although Jadoon, 28, started playing golf three only years ago, he quickly became so devoted that he could see a future for himself in the field. After he found McMaster’s program through an online search, he reached out to a family member who lives in Canada for more information.
“My cousin said, ‘McMaster is one of the top universities in Canada. You should take this program,’” he says.
Currently, Jadoon manages a family-owned shopping plaza in Abbottabad, Pakistan, which gave him a particular interest in several of the business-related courses such as Retail Management in Golf Operations and Entrepreneurship in the Golf Industry. Like many continuing education students, he had previously completed a Bachelor’s degree and even a Master’s degree before starting the McMaster program.
“We’re delighted that the first graduate from McMaster’s Business of Golf and Resort Management program is an international student,” says program manager Christie McGaghran.
“Golf is a huge global business and it has always been our intention to have students from across Canada and around the world learn about this industry together online.”
The full diploma program consists of ten eight-week courses. Topics range from golf club governance to marketing to turf management and more.
Registration is currently open for courses starting in January and March 2019. By taking two courses concurrently, students can finish the program in less than a year. For more information, visit Business of Golf & Resource Management.
