Learning Formats

Virtual classes are held in a live format at the same time and day each week in the Eastern Time Zone (ET). Most sessions will consist of a full 3-hours of live instruction. Instructors will use the weekly class time to present new content, review previous content, and provide opportunities to apply content in a variety of exercises. Courses are activated in Avenue to Learn 1-3 days prior to the course start date. Once your course is active, you will see the course details, including a complete course syllabus.

Considerations for taking a Virtual Classroom course:

• Your schedule allows you to attend class at the same time and day each week. Note all live class times are in the Eastern Time Zone (ET).
• You prefer interacting with your peers and feeling part of a live classroom environment
• You are comfortable asking for clarification when needed and expressing yourself in written form through email or a discussion board
• You are able to read the textbook, other recommended readings, and the assignments on your own and understand the concepts
• You are able to work independently outside of the weekly scheduled class
• You have a quiet place to complete your work
• You are comfortable using technology
• You have access to Wi-Fi/internet, a mobile device/laptop/desktop computer, a microphone, headphones and/or speakers, and a webcam

Note: Some virtual Accounting (ACC) courses require online proctored final exams. Refer to your course shell in Avenue to Learn for any associated proctoring fees that are not included in the course fee.

Online courses require approximately 6-8 hours of study time per week to complete your work. You are not required to log on at a specific time, but must keep up with the weekly schedule of content found at your course site. Some courses may include one-hour live synchronous online sessions to encourage student engagement with class materials. These sessions are recorded for those unable to attend. Courses are activated in Avenue to Learn 1-3 days prior to the course start date. Once your course is active, you will see the course details, including a complete course syllabus. Some courses may require group work. You can review individual course outlines to learn more.

Considerations for taking an Online course:

• You are good at keeping yourself on task to complete a project
• You are comfortable asking for clarification when needed and expressing yourself in written form through email or a discussion board
• You are able to read the textbook, other recommended readings and the assignments on your own and understand the concepts
• You are able to work independently
• You have a quiet place to complete your work
• You are comfortable using technology
• You have access to Wi-Fi/internet, a mobile device/laptop/desktop computer, microphone, and headphones and/or speakers, and a webcam

You are not required to log on at a specific time but must be able to keep up with the content found at your course site. Most courses will include 2-3 live synchronous online sessions. These sessions are recorded for those unable to attend or for future reference. Courses are activated in Avenue to Learn 1-3 days prior to the course start date. Once your course is active, you will see the course details, including a complete course syllabus.

Important to know:

• Each online self-study course has a specific schedule and timeline which must be adhered to. Please be sure to check these details before registering for such a course.
• Although you are permitted to accelerate through course material, you will not be permitted to schedule/sit the final examination (if there is one) earlier than two months post-course start date
• Assignments are due on specified days throughout the course
• Unless otherwise specified, completion of all assignments and the final examination are required to complete the course
• You have access to a facilitator to support your learning, as required

• You can keep yourself on track to complete a project
• You are able to learn with little, if any, peer discussion
• You are able to read the textbook, other recommended readings, and the assignments on your own and understand the concepts

• You have a quiet place to complete your work
