The general manager of a golf club or country club is responsible for the administration of the entire facility. This would include overseeing the successful operation of the golf course, retail store, food and beverage service and event management. You would require knowledge in business management, hospitality, human resources, marketing, retail and finance. To acquire these skills you can take courses in golf and resort management at colleges and universities such as McMaster University Continuing Education.
Golf Retail Shop Manager
Management of a golf shop as an integral component of a golf club’s overall operation. Your responsibilities would span customer service, product purchasing, inventory management, marketing and promotion. To thrive in this role you would require a strong understanding of retail principles to formulate successful buying plans and profitable merchandising strategies.
Club House Food & Beverage Manager
This position leads and manages the food and beverage (F&B) operations. This could include a full-service restaurant, fining dining, event and banquet catering and on-course food service. To succeed in this role, you would need to be able to track the latest hospitality trends in order to implement profitable strategies.
