McMaster Continuing Education launches a new Retirement Community Management program to meet the growing needs of this industry
HAMILTON, ON – March 16, 2022
With Canada’s senior population on the rise, demand has grown for skilled business professionals to supervise, manage and operate retirement communities. As a result, a brand-new program, designed in collaboration between McMaster Continuing Education and the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA), begins this Spring. The Retirement Community Management program allows students to gain the essential knowledge and experience for successful retirement community management. The program focuses on the various departments of retirement communities, such as healthy aging, facilities management, marketing, finance and people management.
Students can earn a certificate in Retirement Community Management by completing the three-course program. It is also available as a concentration of the Business Administration diploma program. Both programs are ideal for individuals interested in getting into the retirement community or long-term care sector and for professionals seeking a second career or career progression within the senior living industry.
According to Statistics Canada’s most recent demographic projections, it is projected that the number of seniors will continue to increase over the next few decades. As a result, seniors could account for over one-fifth of the population by 2025.1 This program responds to the demand for skilled business professionals to supervise, manage and operate retirement communities.
Cathy Hecimovich, Chief Executive Officer of Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA), said that this program “provides students with the exposure and resources they need to pursue the wide variety of business-oriented employment opportunities available in Ontario’s retirement communities.”
“In addition to entering a growing and dynamic sector, retirement communities offer the chance to join a caring, dedicated team that is actively making a difference in the lives of their residents, every day. We look forward to welcoming the program participants to our sector”, she continued to note.
