Through our Nursing Concepts in Continence Care program, you’ll learn to:
- Integrate knowledge into clinical reasoning and nursing judgments that inform and guide a holistic approach to assessing and managing bladder and bowel continence care
- Identify contributing factors and underlying medical conditions to incontinence and apply appropriate nursing interventions
- Gain in-depth knowledge of behavioural and educational interventions used in the management of incontinence
- Integrate nursing research (evidence-informed decision making) as the basis of practice where applicable
- Provide rationale for nursing-specific interventions using scientific knowledge
- Understand the impact of incontinence on the client’s well-being and quality of life
- Apply the assessment and management of bladder and bowel continence care in a professional clinical setting

Certificate of Professional Learning in Nursing Concepts in Continence Care Requirements
The Nursing Concepts in Continence Care program is designed for licensed healthcare providers (e.g., RPN, LPN, RN, NP, Physio, OT, SW).
All registrants must meet the basic requirements below:
- Have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- Be a mature student as defined in the Undergraduate Calendar of McMaster University or be deemed an exceptional case
- A background in health or related fields (RPN, LPN, RN, NP, Physio, OT, SW) and have proof of registration with a professional healthcare licensing body
