This course introduces descriptive statistics, basic inferential statistics, linear regression, and probability concepts and calculations. Practical application activities in the course focus on how statistical methods are used in the analysis of data. Common statistical tools will be introduced and employed in order to demonstrate how significant and insightful information is collected, used and applied to problem-solving processes. This course is designed for individuals with no, or limited, study in Statistics.

This course is offered as a virtual classroom with classes held, as per the scheduled day/time. Classes will be held online, using a combination of synchronous, real-time, instructor led sessions, supplemented with asynchronous activities. You should expect to attend class at the same time, each week, although not every session will be a full 3 hours of live instruction. Rather, classes will provide learners the opportunity to apply what has been covered by your course facilitator. Laptop computer required; No class February 17.

Mian Shah is a goal-oriented leader with passion to spread the power of artificial intelligence. He earned his MSc in Artificial Intelligence with Robotics from University of Hertfordshire (UK) in 2013.
He has worked in the industry for the last many years and is currently employed with Oracle Corp as Software Developer helping with development of chatbots and NLP systems to solve business problems. Mian also teaches data science and programming courses at Sheridan College and has taught previously at Humber and Durham colleges.
Mian’s areas of interest include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Blockchain technology and systems automation. Mian enjoys completing fun hobby projects such as turtle-bot navigation, object recognition, automated doggy door, 3D printed robot arm, etc.
