This course provides a foundation of exploring data through computing and statistical analysis. Focus is placed on the structure and applications of probability, statistics, computer simulation and data analysis for students exploring the field of data science. This course builds upon introductory statistics courses and is designed for students with experience/study in programming, calculus and algebra. Programming in R will be used throughout the course. Pre-requisite: Grade 12 U level Mathematics (Advanced Function, or Calculus and Vectors, or Mathematics for Data Management, or Mathematics for College Technology), or University or college introductory course in Statistics.

This course is offered as a virtual classroom with classes held, as per the scheduled day/time. Classes will be held online, using a combination of synchronous, real-time, instructor led sessions, supplemented with asynchronous activities. You should expect to attend class at the same time, each week, although not every session will be a full 3 hours of live instruction. Rather, classes will provide learners the opportunity to apply what has been covered by your course facilitator. Laptop computer required; No class February 16, and April 20.

Mark Peco is a seasoned educator, consultant and team builder with expertise in data management, analytics and process improvement. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering from the University of Waterloo and works with clients to identify and implement key capabilities needed to drive impact from their investments in data and analytics.
As a faculty member with leading organizations Mark develops and delivers courses, seminars and workshops to business and technology professionals on a broad range of data related topics. He teaches companies on a global basis how to implement and govern “intelligent” business solutions.
Mark is a Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) at the mastery level and maintains his professional focus at the intersection of business, operations, and technology. He enjoys advising and facilitating management teams as they learn new concepts, how to shape new data-driven business strategies and how to achieve success.
