Data analytics problems require new tools/technologies to store and manage the data to realize the business benefit. This course explores the importance of managing data as an enterprise asset and the data management components required in term of the acquisition, storage, sharing, validation and accessibility of data for addressing business problems. An examination of Database Management Systems, database architectures, the differences between OLTP (Online transaction processing) OLAP (online analytical processing) and the administrative processes that guide the data lifecycle will be a focus of the course.

This course is offered as a virtual classroom with classes held, as per the scheduled day/time. Classes will be held online, using a combination of synchronous, real-time, instructor led sessions, supplemented with asynchronous activities. You should expect to attend class at the same time, each week, although not every session will be a full 3 hours of live instruction. Rather, classes will provide learners the opportunity to apply what has been covered by your course facilitator. Laptop computer required. Zaki is a data leader at Electronic Arts, missioned to democratize analytics and data products by designing and implementing high-scale data architectures that meet business needs and data strategy. Zaki’s expertise in designing, executing, and driving data architecture strategy has been instrumental in creating several key data architectures in his various roles. He combines deep technical expertise, talent leadership, and organizational leadership for data transformation to build tactical and strategic data architectures at the core of building various big data, BI, and AI products and services.
Zaki graduated from McMaster Continuing Education’s Big Data Analytics Program and obtained his MBA from the University of Derby, in addition to several industry certifications and credentials.
Dario Medina is a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst for Wealth at TD Bank in Toronto. In his role he builds operational dashboards and scorecards for various business lines to support their strategic objectives. Dario has also held senior business intelligence and leadership roles at Scotiabank, Bell before coming to Canada from Peru, Praxair. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Software Engineering, a Masters of Software Engineering and an MBA from McMaster University.
Eleanor Smith, a 1996 Humanities Graduate of McMaster University, has been working in the of the field of Information Technology since 2000, when she started working at Dofasco as an Oracle Database Administrator. Eleanor was proud to have been part of the team to deliver their first electronic steel ordering solution . Since 2000, she has performed various roles involving software engineering, project management and infrastructure architecture. Eleanor enjoys teaching technical topics and has been known to inject literary references to Catcher in the Rye in her classes. Past teaching engagements include programming courses at Mohawk College; and in the summer of 2017, Eleanor traveled to Chennai, India to provide corporate training to new hires for Fidelity Investments.
