Richard Godsmark is the AVP & CIO at an Ontario Higher Education Institution.
Richard has more than 25 years of experience working in Information Technology, with the last 21+ years in the Canadian higher education sector. Richard has both his Bachelor of Information Technology, and Master of Information Technology with Distinction. He also maintains several industry certifications from ISC2 and ISACA such as the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C), received from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Richard has been an active member of the IAPP, has held several IAPP KnowledgeNet Happy Hours in Hamilton and was on the IAPP Canadian Advisory Board from 2017-2019. Richard also spent several years on the McMaster Research Ethics Board (MREB) reviewing research protocols involving human participants to ensure that research was conducted in an ethical manner and abided by the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS). Richard has a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence, specifically with respects to the ethical use and the privacy implications.
