This course will provide students with the payroll-related legislation affecting organizations, as well as the tools to find information and apply that information to different payroll scenarios. Students who complete the course will know the payroll compliance responsibilities that affect organizations, be able to comprehend legislation and effectively communicate these to all stakeholders. Pre-requisite: BUS 850 Business Communications or equivalent Recommended Pre-requisite: Thorough understanding of mathematical principles will increase the probability of success in this course. Some students might consider taking ACC 929 Preparatory Mathematics to brush up on skills.

This course is offered as a virtual classroom with classes held, as per the scheduled day/time. Classes will be held online, using a combination of synchronous, real-time, instructor led sessions, supplemented with asynchronous activities. You should expect to attend class at the same time, each week, although not every session will be a full 3 hours of live instruction. Rather, classes will provide learners the opportunity to apply what has been covered by your course facilitator. No class Sept 25. Please note registering after the course start date may delay course access and does not permit exceptions to coursework due dates, late textbook purchases, or the refund policy. Students register with both MCE and NPI.

I am a Certified Payroll Manager and a Chartered Professional Accountant (Certified Management Accountant). My career has included various roles in both Accounting and Payroll. I have been a volunteer with the Canadian Payroll Association for a number of years on various committees and serving on the Board of Directors. I have been involved in instructing Canadian Payroll Association certification courses in the classroom, and online as well as delivering Professional Development seminars.
